PrefaceNewer Simutrans versions are delivered as two archives instead of one. A base package and one package with system specific files. In such a case be sure that you've got both, base package and system specific package. Both packages create a "simutrans" folder during unpacking. That must be the same folder, don't unpack one package into the others package simutrans folder. In the end, there must be only one "simutrans" folder. Windows versionThe archive is a zip archive and can be decompressed using winzip (http://www.winzip.com) or similar unzip program. Step by step installation instructions:
Installation is complete now. You can start Simutrans by double-clicking c:\games\simutrans\simutrans.exe Note: do not install over an old version, unless the release notes of some particular version explicitely tell you to do so. Usually installing over an old versions will not work. If you have an old installation, rename the folder or move it away, and install the new version into a new folder. Linux VersionIf you're using GNU tar, the archive can be decompressed by tar xvzf simulinux-0_81_10exp.tar.gz. Otherwise you have to use gunzip -c simulinux-0_81_10exp.tar.gz | tar xvf - If you got a Simutrans version with a separate base package, you need to use unzip to uncompress the base package: unzip simubase-0_81_10exp.zip Step by step installation instructions:

Usually you can start Simutrans right after decompressing the archive, but if you want to finetune Simutrans you can open simuconf.tab with a text editor and edit it according to your needs. There are lots of comments in that file that should help to find good settings for your system. |
