Simutrans Manual - How to use signals

If you want to put more than one train on a railroad track, you have to use signals.

Signal types

There are double signals and single signals available in Simutrans. If you use double signals the trains will try to use the shortest possible route. Single signals can be used to guide the trains, i.e. through a two track section. Double signals are mainly useful to intersect single rails, to raise the number of trains that can follow each other on that track.

Signal Description
Double Double Signal
Single Signal (left direction) Single Signal (left direction)
Single Signal (right direction) Single Signal (right direction)

Placing signals

  1. Select the signal building tool (by clicking the signal-icon in the rail-tools menu)
  2. Click on a rail

If you click an existing signal again with the signal building tool, the signal will be switched to another signal type, like shown below:

1.) DoubleSignal  2.) Single Signal (left direction)  3.) Single Signal (right direction)
